Hired
At Hired, we believe every person deserves the opportunity to build a stable and promising future. For nearly 60 years, we have worked with individuals in the Twin Cities, whose job opportunities and financial security have been shaped by systemic inequities and situational barriers. Our mission is to nurture purpose and advance economic opportunity for all through individualized employment and career services. Hired takes a whole-person approach to workforce development; we provide high-quality and individualized coaching and skill-building opportunities and help individuals stabilize by connecting them to community resources for basic needs, work experiences, and other services. We also help them build critical skills that support a more prosperous life, including financial wellness and parenting skills.
Purpose
Hired was founded in 1968 to level the employment playing field for people released from incarceration who faced barriers to employment. The jobseekers we work with today come from a much broader audience, yet Hired continues its focus on preparing people for full participation in the economy with family-sustaining jobs, benefits, and advancement pathways.
Hired works with 5,150+ individuals each year in four primary audiences:
1. Parents in Hennepin and Ramsey counties, who are receiving support through the Minnesota Family Investment Program (MFIP) and are seeking employment support, holistic services, parent coaching, and resource referrals
b. Unemployed and underemployed adults, as well as those who have been laid off through no fault of their own.
c. Jobseekers seeking training for careers in high-need sectors (including advanced manufacturing (technicians and operators), human services, home energy auditing, office administration, and more).
d. Youth ages 14-24 disconnected from education and employment.
Hired connects participants to resources for food, transportation, childcare, and more. Hired works with participants to: Identify careers that align with their skills and interests; build marketable and relevant skills, including digital literacy and connectivity; gain industry-recognized credentials, and increase their financial wellness.

Additional Culture Details
At Hired, our number one value is “Put people first.” That’s not just a line that lives on our website, it’s a core driving factor for how we carry out our work.
In our work with our jobseekers, we focus on building trusting relationships, so that, through relationships, we can help them to express their dreams, make career and life plans, learn new skills, and secure and maintain family-sustaining employment.
Hired is committed to having a staff and board that reflect the diversity of the communities we work with, and it is a part of our commitment to delivering culturally responsive services. Half (50%) of our staff identify as BIPOC, along with more than a third of the board of directors, including our board chair. Additionally, to provide high quality services for non-native English speakers, Hired’s multilingual staff speak ten languages in addition to English (including Hmong, Somali, and Spanish), and we engage interpreters, as needed.
We are deeply committed to supporting staff in their continuous learning. From staff committee-identified professional development and speaker series to external resources, we invest in the people who carry out our work.
