Purpose
Founded in 1986, headquartered in the United States, and conducting business in the U.S., the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, India, and Canada, Bright Horizons operates more than 1,000 early education and child care centers worldwide and partners with more than 1,350 leading employers across nearly every industry. Bright Horizons provides a complete family of employer solutions, including child care, back-up care for children and adults/elders, and educational advising for employees and their college-bound dependents.
Vision
The foundation of our culture is our HEART principles, through which we encourage Honesty, Excellence, Accountability, Respect, and Teamwork. Many in the Bright Horizons family adopt these principles in both their work and personal lives. We take our work seriously, but also make sure to celebrate and have fun. We recognize the critical role our team plays in fulfilling our mission. And to do that, we provide an environment where employees can bring their whole selves to work.
Mission
Bright Horizons mission is to provide innovative solutions that help children, families, employees, and employers work together to be their very best. In 1986, with dual-income families on the rise, our founders, Roger Brown and Linda Mason, saw a need for high quality child care and early education to support children and working parents. They wanted to create centers that were welcoming places for all children, families and educators alike. More than 30 years later, we operate preschools, child care centers, back-up care, elder care, education and college advising and other family solutions worldwide. Our work makes an impact on individuals, families and communities, creating positive difference in people’s lives.
Additional Culture Details
As our more than 35 year history indicates, we realize that culture is a living thing that must advance and evolve as the needs of our people and business change. In the past three years, we all have been tested in ways we never imagined. Thanks to the strength of our culture, our HEART principles, and purpose-driven mission, our people and organization have met every challenge head on with compassion, grace and gratitude. From continuing to recover from the pandemic to social unrest to the war in Ukraine, our leaders and people lead with actions and words.
Our for all culture addresses the needs beyond the workplace and into our communities, giving our people a great sense of pride in their company and their work. For example, we partnered with The Bright Horizons Foundation for Children to raise money for Save the Children to support the children and families fleeing the Ukraine for safety, shelter and food—we raised more than $60,000. Another example is when Bright Horizons stood up to the recent anti-LGBTQ legislation occurring in Florida and Texas. Instead of sitting on the sidelines, we, along with 200+ other companies, signed the Human Rights Campaign’s Business Statement on anti-LGBTQ State Legislation. Our culture values justice and doing the right thing, especially when it violates our core beliefs that every person on the planet deserves care and opportunities to learn and grow.
