Westminster Canterbury Richmond

Westminster Canterbury Richmond is the eight largest single-site Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) in the country. A CCRC provides independent living and health services on one campus, including Assisted Living, Memory Support, Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation. Westminster Canterbury Richmond was founded in 1971 by the Episcopal and Presbyterian churches and opened in 1975. Westminster Canterbury was the first among Richmond-area retirement communities to earn accreditation by the Continuing Care Accreditation Commission (now CARF-CCAC), the independent authority that evaluates all aspects of a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC). We have held that distinction continuously since 1987. Fewer than 15% of all CCRCs in America hold this accreditation.

Westminster Canterbury Richmond also has a licensed Child Development Center on campus that has provided care to children of employees and children from the community since 1984. Intergenerational programs are an integral part of the curriculum and benefit both residents and children. The Center is licensed by the Virginia Department of Social Services and serves children ages 6 weeks through 12 years.
