University School is a place where each boy is inspired and empowered to let his true self thrive. University School teachers are masters of their discipline and inspire and mentor students with integrity and compassion. The faculty is accomplished, 86% have master’s degrees or higher, including 17 Ph.Ds. and three J.D.s.
As an all-boys’ school, the faculty focus with intention on learning that addresses not only how to excel academically but also how to grow into a young man of integrity and empathy. Making friends and connecting with adult mentors, boys develop both empathy and respect for others, and appreciation of self, and an evolved understanding of what it means to be a man in the 21st century.

Purpose
University School, an independent day school located in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio, is home to 840 boys in Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12. Our dedicated faculty, rigorous curriculum, and experiential programs foster intellectual, physical, creative, and moral excellence. University School inspires boys of promise to become young men of character who lead and serve.
Vision
University School believes that its students learn their most formative and enduring lessons through exposure to and experience with a broad range of perspectives. We recruit and support faculty whose backgrounds and training bring local, national, and international perspectives to our school. We admit and support students who represent economically, culturally, and racially diverse communities within Northeast Ohio. All students have many opportunities to explore their talents and develop their skills in new contexts. During his time at US, each student is encouraged to discover both his responsibility to others and his purpose in the world.

Additional Culture Details
With the changing world they will enter as adults, our current students will be asked to continue learning throughout their careers, to work imaginatively and critically with emerging technologies, and to bring a global perspective to local and national questions. Our academic curriculum is rich in the liberal arts and complemented with course work and experiential programs that prepare students to thrive and contribute to the global community. These programs focus on leadership and teamwork, and include travel opportunities, world language, and cultural studies in all grades. An expanded computer science program includes coursework in virtual reality at the upper school level, with work by faculty to incorporate the technology in middle school courses and in the primary school’s design lab. In addition to AP and post-AP courses, independent research options are available in all disciplines through fellowship programs and internships beginning in the middle school.
