Camaraderie, the collective influence of colleagues, sets us apart: their willingness to make each other successful, to be a resource, and to respond with patience and a smile.

Even before we moved to a virtual workplace because of the coronavirus pandemic, more than 900 employees (30%) participated in the Remote Work program, where they work from home two, three, four or five days per week. Hundreds of employees have flexible schedules that support work/life balance and allow us to achieve our business goals. This structure made the move to an almost fully remote workforce a smooth transition.

To encourage connections while we work apart, we’ve collected photos of employees’ home “offices,” favorite recipes, fun socks, hobbies and more to share on our intranet. We have resources for working parents, support for people facing anxiety or depression and telehealth visits with our staff from our health clinic. We are interviewing, hiring and training employees remotely. Says one new hire: “It amazes me how much effort is made by Tufts Health Plan to enhance the employment experience. I've never worked at a company quite like this. It is truly remarkable!”

We have classes to improve skills, opportunities to be a leader, wellness activities for all ages and fitness levels, volunteer events to help local organizations and celebrations to mark a job well done. We have a Hall of Fame for employees to recognize the work of colleagues who uphold the company values. Our headquarters has an onsite garden and an outdoor fitness park; we organize several intermural golf, basketball, flag football, table tennis and soccer leagues.

We have an active employee referral program that each year leads to more than 25% of external hires. Approximately 375 (13%) employees have been here for 20+ years, and some for up to 35 years! “Boomerangs” – employees who left and returned – are a common sight at Tufts Health Plan and we welcome them back with open arms.
