Tri-North Builders, Inc.
Tri-North was founded in Madison, Wisconsin in 1981 as a General Contracting firm by three friends with a vision for the future of construction. For over 40 years, Tri-North has continuously expanded its footprint to include all 50 states, and also expanded its services to include pre-construction, general construction, construction management, design-build, cost estimating, and LEED (green) consulting services.
With three nationwide offices, Tri-North places a strong emphasis on team members and their families; offering childcare services through our daycare center at the corporate headquarters. In 1995, Tri-North became an employee-owned company. Tri-North believes that fostering a fun, diverse, and interesting workplace is just as important as any project that we may be working on, and that is part of the reason why our employees stick with us.
Tri-North goes the extra mile for our employees because at the end of the day, they’re what makes Tri-North such a great place to work.

Additional Culture Details
Tri-North's culture can be summed up by the following quote from our values statement:
The jobsite and office are where we get things done, but they are also where we build friendships and grow personally and professionally. We prioritize maximizing individual potential and ensuring that each member of our hardworking, passionate team enjoys being at work.
Tri-North recently adopted a heavily team-oriented structure wherein team accountability is stressed above individual accountability. Tri-North leadership believes that the highest performing teams are ones in which peers manage the majority of performance with one another. The role of management is not to settle small problems and constantly monitor every individual, but rather, to create an effective team culture where peers are empowered to address concerns immediately and respectfully with each other. This also encourages teams to engage and contribute to innovative solutions.
A vital part of the process of moving to a team-based corporate structure and culture is inviting employees to air anxieties and issues with procedures and protocol. Adopting this process has significantly boosted morale and engagement, and required leadership to be open and supportive, rather than defensive in the face of well-intentioned critique and suggestions. In addition to adopting this team structure, Tri-North prioritizes maximizing individual potential to ensure that employees know they are vital contributors to the team who are free to share ideas and opinions.
Tri-North also has a strong commitment to ensuring that Tri-North’s employees are happy. From impromptu after work happy hours, to regularly checking in with employees to make sure they have the appropriate resources to succeed, leadership actively seeks out opportunities to keep the staff engaged and feeling valued. This effort takes many shapes, including monthly staff breakfasts and lunches, field trips for office staff to visit job sites, a PTO purchase program that encourages employees to volunteer with non-profit organizations, and random giveaways and happy hours. Whether it’s the currently running step competition, other fun competitions, or the Ugly Christmas Sock Exchange in December, Tri-North employees always have something fun to look forward to.
Finally, one of the hallmarks of Tri-North culture is a true respect for the importance of staff’s family and home life. This isn’t just a theory or a marketing ploy. Tri-North goes beyond offering flexibility for the needs of team member’s families. Deep at the company’s heart, fully supported by leadership, is a compassionate core that has shown itself countless times and in countless ways by the company at large and smaller teams coming together to support employees through difficult life situations in profoundly personal ways.
