The Methodist Hospital System is a health care organization with five member hospitals, a research institute, a medical residency education program and a physician organization. With 13,500 employees, Methodist is one of the Houston area’s largest employers. Our flagship, The Methodist Hospital, is a founding member of the Texas Medical Center and one of the country’s largest private non-profit hospitals. The hospital system provides virtually all specialties. Chartered in 1919, Methodist acquired an international reputation for medical breakthroughs through the pioneering work of surgeon Dr. Michael E. DeBakey, who made Methodist his base until his death in 2008.
