A Sweet History
Leon Sweet—yup the family’s last name is actually Sweet—founded the Company in Portland, Oregon in 1892. Leon was a pioneer and a visionary in the candy business.
In 1900, he brought his business to Salt Lake City and in 1909, he moved the Company into what is now considered an historic downtown location (224 South 200 West).
For ninety years, Sweet’s produced the finest candies while in that historic location. To pave the way for the next 100 years, in 1999, Sweet’s built a new candy manufacturing facility where we are presently located at 3780 West Directors Row.
Leon’s son, Jack Sweet, followed his father as chairman of the Company and served for many years. Presently, Jack’s son Tony, a third generation Sweet, is the Chairman of the Board following his over 50 years of service with the Company, accompanied by 4th generation family members, Rick Kay and Rachel Sweet-Martin. Sweet Candy Company is privately owned and operated.
