Smashtech
We make living a healthy lifestyle simple, but how we do it is a far better story. When we say we create brands, we mean we actually dream them up and turn them into eCommerce sensations by managing everything in-house.
We do it all from research & development, manufacturing, design, branding, marketing, media, sales, and customer service, for every brand we create. We’re not an agency, we don’t have clients, we simply create, manage, and own everything we touch.
The world is evolving fast, and we’re in the driver’s seat. We’re one of the fastest growing companies in San Diego, and because of our amazing culture, we’ve been recognized by multiple award-giving bodies and publications. And this is just the beginning.

Additional Culture Details
At Smashtech, keeping our culture alive as we scale is very important. We constantly work on ways to improve the way we do things and we do everything we can to ensure we have our finger on the pulse of how our team members are doing. We also have several programs in place to ensure that everyone is on the same page.
*Putting people on the right seats*
at Smashtech we hire based on our vision and believe in hiring the top talent that will take us where we want to be. But we also understand that as we grow, we need to continue assessing the company’s needs and the talent we have in house. As part of our individual job planning for our employees, we discuss areas of specialization and fill in missing gaps internally first, if we can, before looking outward.
*Personalized growth plans*
At Smashtech, we understand that management is not the only path to growth. That’s why we perform individual job planning. Members could be specialists, individual contributors, subject matter experts, etc. To ensure that each team member succeeds in their role, we offer the opportunity for continuing education via many different channels, including Linkedin learning, monthly book clubs, attending conferences, workshops around the country, etc.
*Inter-departmental team building*
As a vertically integrated organization, it’s important for members of each department to understand the value they add to other departments. Synergy across teams is crucial for our success. This is why we ensure we do regular team building activities across teams. We also open up projects office-wide for members of different teams to help out in other roles and capacities within the organization. This has allowed us to identify potential within our talent pool and reorganize as needed. In fact, 30% of all positions were filled internally in 2017 through promotions and transfers.
*Diversity is a norm, not a policy*
At Smashtech, we’ve been lucky enough to have always had a strong candidate pool as we’ve grown from our two co founders to a team of 60+ in two years. From that candidate pool, we've always believed in hiring the best person for the job. We never thought that we'd end up with a team where 83% of us are part of a minority group. And an interesting fact is that our team speaks 13 different languages : Portuguese, Mandarin, Filipino, Russian, Spanish, German, Italian, English, French, Greek, Laotian, Korean, and American Sign Language.
*Engagement matters*
As our team grows, we also want to ensure that we continue to improve. One way we do this is by constantly seeking employee feedback. We use TinyPulse as an employee engagement platform that allows us to get short and frequent engagement surveys that reveal the truth about our company culture through anonymous responses and peer recognition.
We also do third party surveys yearly to measure employee engagement. In 2017, 93% of our employees are engaged.
Some notable items that came out of one of our third party surveys are as follows:
97% agree that the leaders of this organization care about their employees' well being
100% agree that they like the people I work with at this organization
97% agree that they feel part of a team working toward a shared goal
97% agree that the organization treats me like a person, not a number
