Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, Inc.
Sigma Theta Tau was created in 1922 by six nursing students at the IU School of Nursing as an honor society of nursing. Membership into the society is based on educational excellence or a proven display of nursing leadership within the candidates community. This indvidual and chapter based organization provides leadership and career development opportunities to its members and the general nursing profession. The society is comprised of over 450 chapters located in 22 different countries. The society is also the leader in nursing research with over 35,000 nursing research abstracts available on its Virginia Henderson International Research Library, and awards over $100,000 in research grants to its members annually.
