Oskar Blues Brewery

Great beer in a can? The term has been an oxymoron for craft beer lovers used to getting their full-flavored beers from bottles only. But in November 2002, Oskar Blues Brewery, the tiny brewpub in Lyons, Colorado changed that image by launching its “Canned Beer Apocalypse.” The move made Oskar Blues the first US craft brewer to brew and can its own beer.

Cans are easily portable for outdoor enjoyment, keep the beer incredibly fresh by fully protecting it from light & oxygen, are easier to recycle & less fuel-consuming to ship, and unlike cans of old, modern aluminum cans are lined with a coating so beer & can never touch. But it’s the beer inside of the cans that wow beer experts and consumers.

Ten Years later, Oskar Blues is one of the top 50 craft breweries in the US, with over 40% growth last year. Their flagship beer, Dale’s Pale Ale, is the second best-selling craft beer in Colorado, and the brewery took home three medals during the 2011 Great American Beer Festival.

In addition to the brewery’s two restaurants, last year Oskar Blues kicked off a four million dollar brewery expansion project, and launched its Hops & Heifers Farm, REEB Bike Company, and the Bonewagon Food Truck.
