Operation HOPE was founded in 1992 by John Hope Bryant with a clear mission: to make free enterprise work for everyone. We are the nation’s leading provider of financial literacy and economic empowerment for the underserved, underbanked, and underrepresented communities across the nation fueling financial dignity. Through our award-winning HOPE Inside model, we offer no-cost coaching and education on credit, savings, homeownership, entrepreneurship, and disaster resilience—delivered in banks, schools, workplaces, and community spaces across all 50 states and Puerto Rico. We believe financial wellbeing is the civil rights issue of our time, and we’re here to help everyday people attain the American dream through economic opportunity and financial literacy, one empowered decision at a time.
Purpose
Operation HOPE exists to disrupt poverty and empower the underserved through financial education, coaching, and economic opportunity. Founded in 1992 by John Hope Bryant in response to the LA Riots, HOPE has been at the forefront of what we call the Silver Rights Movement—championing financial dignity as a pathway to social justice.
We serve millions of underserved youth and adults across the states and Puerto Rico with no-cost coaching and programming designed to move people from financial survival to financial success. We help the unbanked become banked, renters become homeowners, and small business dreamers become owners—connecting communities to the power of free enterprise and inclusive capitalism at scale. Our purpose is simple: make the American Dream work for everyone.

Mission
Since 1992, Operation HOPE has been moving America from civil rights to “silver rights” with the mission of making free enterprise and capitalism work for the underserved—disrupting poverty for millions of low- and moderate-income youth and adults across the nation. Through its community uplift model, HOPE Inside, which received the 2016 “Innovator of the Year” recognition by American Banker magazine, Operation HOPE has served millions of individuals and directed billions in economic activity into disenfranchised communities—turning check-cashing customers into banking customers, renters into homeowners, small business dreamers into small business owners, minimum wage workers into living wage consumers, and uncertain disaster victims into financially empowered disaster survivors.
Honoring our legacy, we continue to strive to find new and innovative ways to promote financial literacy for all, drive new business formation and growth, and influence policy that will help achieve financial equity. HOPE continues to grow its coaching footprint across America in both physical locations and through virtual program offerings. We look forward to expanding the reach of our services using new and engaging technologies so that all people have convenient access to financial literacy.
