Office of the Public Defender, 6th Circuit
The Office of the Public Defender, Sixth Judicial Circuit is a state agency whose Constitutional responsibility is to represent indigent individuals who are charged with a criminal offense. We operate a Crossover for Children program to provide representation to juveniles whose cases involve both dependency and delinquency, using a one judge/one attorney approach. Our Homeless Outreach program assists homeless individuals and those at risk of becoming homeless to resolve their legal issues, and also provides living assistance and referral services to community programs. Our Jail Diversion program helps divert individuals with mental health and co-occurring substance abuse disorders, providing extensive case management and treatment services to reduce or eliminate their incidence and length of incarceration.
