New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services
The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) is a multi-function support agency with broad responsibilities across New York’s criminal justice system. Since its establishment in 1972, DCJS has worked to enhance public safety by providing resources, data, and services that inform decision-making and strengthen criminal justice statewide. The agency trains law enforcement and criminal justice professionals; collects, analyzes, and reports statewide crime data; conducts research, analysis, and technical assistance for system stakeholders; maintains criminal history records and fingerprint files; manages state and federal criminal justice funding; oversees probation departments and community corrections programs; administers the State’s sex offender registry, Missing Persons Clearinghouse, and DNA Databank; maintains breath-testing and speed-enforcement equipment; and administers and supports several commissions and councils.
