Our journey began in Nigeria over 30 years ago, when a young professor inundated with patients suffering from onchocerciasis dedicated himself to alleviating ophthalmic ailments. After moving to California a few years later, Dr. A. Mateen Ahmed founded New World Medical (NWM) and introduced the Ahmed® Glaucoma Valve to the world. We were established with the mission of Benefiting Humanity. Our firm works to live up to this lofty goal by developing, manufacturing, and marketing cutting-edge medical devices intended to alleviate the suffering of glaucoma patients globally.

Despite this success, NWM has remained true to the ethical business practices upon which it was founded, equitably pricing our products, giving away thousands upon thousands of devices to help indigent patients, and sharing its success equitably with employees. The firm remains family-owned, allowing it to focus its energy on patient care, thereby keeping its objectives aligned with ophthalmologists worldwide.
