Kansas City Royals
The Kansas City Royals are a Major League Baseball team operated by a hometown ownership group led by Chairman and CEO John Sherman. Ewing Kauffman founded the club in 1969 because, in his words, “I believe the people of Kansas City deserved a Major League Baseball team.” We have four American League pennants and two World Series Championships. Since Sherman’s purchase, the Royals won the Bud Selig Award for Philanthropic Excellence in 2021 and have been a finalist three other times.
Purpose
The Kansas City Royals strive for excellence on and off the field—creating memorable baseball experiences for generations of fans and making a meaningful difference in our community. As stewards of this storied franchise, we carry forward founder Ewing Kauffman’s belief that a baseball team has a civic responsibility to give back and inspire hometown pride. Our regular season spans 162 games, but our work continues year-round to make Kansas City proud.
Values
- Baseball is for Everyone
- The Kansas City Royals believe baseball is for everyone. It is our desire to create an exciting, inclusive environment for our players, staff, and fans. We use the power of baseball to unleash human potential. As an organization, we place our time and efforts in the community, not only because it is the right thing to do but because we want to help shape the future of sport. We use our club’s unique assets and capabilities to help address key issues in our community both on and off the field.
