InterCommunity Health Care began in 1977 with three families who gathered in a Glastonbury church basement to share information about mental health issues and offer each other support. Since that first meeting, InterCommunity has come a long way and has truly embraced the concept of integrated care. In 2014, we launched our first primary care office in East Hartford. On March 1, 2015, InterCommunity became a Federally Qualified Health Care Look- Alike (FQHC-LAL). This new designation enabled us to provide care to people regardless of their ability to pay. Our second primary care location opened in Hartford at 56 Coventry Street in 2016, and in 2017 we began offering services in school-based health centers (SBHCs) across East Hartford. This same year, InterCommunity entered an affiliation with the former ADRC (Alcohol & Drug Recovery Centers) to offer a wide range of services. Our third primary care location opened in South Windsor in 2019, followed by the opening of InterCommunity.

As we continue to grow our goal remains the same: to reduce health disparities in the community and offer people from underserved areas the best care possible for body and mind.
