Günter Blase founded igus® on 15th October 1964 in a double garage in Cologne. For the initial two decades, the firm served as a provider of intricate technical polymer components. In 1983, his son, Frank Blase, introduced reinforced plastic cable carriers and injection molded polymer bearings as two separate product categories, leading to the establishment of a comprehensive network of sales engineers. This innovative approach was brought to the United States, forming igus Inc., enhancing its presence in North America. These products, though diverse, are unified by the mission to produce functionally superior, yet economically feasible polymer parts and assemblies. From 1985 to 2022, igus witnessed exponential growth, expanding from 40 to over 4,500 employees spread across its main office in Germany, igus US, and 34 other subsidiaries worldwide. Additionally, igus collaborates with representative partners in more than 35 nations.
