Started in 1929 by a group of five individuals who saw an opportunity in the tanning industry, the name Hydrite came from the idea that using Hydrite chemicals would tan the “hyde” right.
The mission, vision, and values that were important in 1929 are still important today. With a focus on the future, Hydrite is taking steps to be a leading manufacturer, employer, and community advocate as the company approaches its 95-year milestone.
Hydrite has experienced significant growth throughout Wisconsin, including strategic acquisitions that ushered the company into new markets like food, agriculture, energy, and water treatment.

Hydrite made a strategic decision in 2020 to introduce our Safety Vision, Mission and Values into an existing, robust safety program with the intent to reinvigorate and drive a One Hydrite Safety Culture across the organization. In support of this initiative, Hydrite made a bold and transformational choice to identify the language, actions and behaviors of individual employees, teams, and the culture we aspire to become and communicated as the expectation. These expectations are known within Hydrite as our leading indicators and are communicated, measured, acknowledged, and understood as the strategic path forward to deliver our vision.
The performance management process is based on our cultural Building Blocks and employees’ results. Hydrite reinforces a culture of learning and promotion from within via succession planning process and development programs. This process captures our performance philosophy of The Right Results, The Right Way.
In 2022, Hydrite announced that we will recognize excellence through the President’s Award in 2023 and beyond. We will recognize functional areas, plants, and our top commercial employees in alignment with our Building Blocks.
