Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio is an ecumenical, Christian, non-profit organization working in partnership with God’s people in need to build modest, decent and affordable homes. Habitat partners with low-income families who could not otherwise afford to own a home to help them build and buy decent and affordable homes at no interest and no profit. We are not a “hand out” but rather a "hand-up" because we help families help themselves. Our families earn from 25% - 70% of area median income ($28,500 was 2016’s average income). Families are accepted to our program based on their need, ability to pay a zero percent interest mortgage, and their willingness to partner. Once accepted, families are eligible to buy a home from Habitat with a 20 year 0% interest mortgage. Families work at least 300 hours of “sweat equity,” helping build their own home and their neighbors’ homes. In partnership with local businesses, foundations, churches, and individuals we have built more than 1000 homes with families in need!
