Firehouse Animal Health Centers

We’re pet lovers. And we know you are, too. That’s why our goal is to reshape your experience at the vet.

You should enjoy the visit. And your pet should feel calm and happy with us.

We’ve always said there isn’t one thing we do that’s dramatically different. It’s the 100 little things we do every day to make the whole experience better.

We offer this experience to our clients who can care for their pets as well as to pets in shelters, to whom we gift medical care. Our team has helped thousands of dogs and cats become healthy enough for adoption. We celebrate animals who find their forever family.

We’re proud of our team and the culture we’ve built: one that delivers the best experience for you, your pet, and our community.

Purpose

Our purpose is to offer the best, most comprehensive veterinary experience for you, your pet, and our community.

For you: We strive to exceed your expectations, making your visit pleasant and stress free. Each day we do 100 little things to make a BIG difference to your visit. We focus on honest communication with pet owners. We offer options for healthcare based on lifestyle and budget. We’re friendly and helpful. There are 96 other little things we do to create an amazing Firehouse experience. View our full list of 100 Little Things at firehouse.vet/100-little-things.

For pets: We value the human-animal bond. So we want each pet to live the longest, happiest, and healthiest life. Clients tell us their pets LOVE coming to Firehouse. That’s because we use calming methods to improve the experience. When dogs willingly hop in the car and cats bear with us, pet parents are more likely to do yearly exams. Research shows that annual visits promote health and extend a pet’s lifetime. It also lets us catch issues early. Learn more at firehouseaustin.com/services.

For our community: We actively support 15 local pet nonprofits and their mission to improve pet lives. We aim to offer ALL pets a chance at living their best life. We do this by offering each of those nonprofits free medical care for their shelter pets. We support their fundraisers. We sit on their boards. And more. Giving back to our community pets is part of our daily mission. Learn more at firehouse.vet/giving-back.

Additional Culture Details

We’re always looking for ways to improve our culture. We care for our team as devotedly as we do clients and patients. -Our culture of caring for team members starts with 60 days of onboarding. This allows time to teach processes, set expectations, coach communication tools, and model DEI values. -As time goes on, opportunities for personal and professional growth abound. Goal setting and coaching improve confidence, optimism, and mental health. Quarterly check-in meetings create a structure to review progress. A team member named Olivia was set on owning a farm with goats and cows alongside her goal of joining the marketing team. She did both in 2021. -We promote from within. We hire people with the potential to do their current roles and perhaps, the desire to do more. Four Medical Directors and 7 Hospital Managers have all been promoted from within. -We value work-life balance to keep morale high. We are not blind to our industry’s high rate of suicide. To help our team, we provide a safe environment, foster communication, and provide check-ins. We value vacation and encourage our team to disconnect while out of the office. -Firehouse values our role in the community. We actively support 15 pet nonprofits through event participation, fostering animals, free medical care, and more. Service binds our team to a common cause and increases their sense of belonging. -Fun! We take our work seriously but we don’t take ourselves too seriously. Parties and perks are part of our way.... Values

Foster Education
"Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning.” -Benjamin Franklin.

We create a culture that facilitates the growth and learning of our team, clients, and community. Effective veterinary team members should have the heart of a teacher and the curiosity of a student. At Firehouse, we practice the mantra, "learn one, do one, teach one." We are hungry for knowledge and eager to share.
