Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta
The Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta is part of the central bank of the United States. The Federal Reserve System—the Fed, as it is often called—consists of 12 Reserve Banks located around the country and the Board of Governors in Washington, D.C. The Federal Reserve works to help U.S. consumers, workers and businesses by pursuing conditions that foster economic growth and financial stability. The Fed carries out its mission in a way that’s independent of day-to-day politics but accountable to Congress and the U.S. public.
The Atlanta Fed and the other Reserve Banks play an important part in all three of the Fed's functions: monetary policy, bank supervision and regulation, and the operation of a nationwide payment system. Through its board of directors and business contacts, the Atlanta Fed provides a vital connection with the Southeastern economy, which helps inform these three functions.
