Additional Culture Details
Duffield Associates’ mission and the phrase that we live by, “enhancing our community one project at a time” is the cornerstone of the Duffield culture. The word “enhancing” acknowledges that real world problems are complex and require leveraging the full suite of diverse technical capabilities that Duffield offers. Collaboration is needed to develop uniquely creative and value added solutions for clients’ projects. “Community” represents not only clients and fellow Duffield colleagues, but also extended families who depend on us and the communities where we live and work. Additionally, it includes the professional community, which we strive to advance every day by adhering to high levels of professionalism and attracting other talented professionals.
Jesper Lowgren said, “An extraordinary business starts with extraordinary people. Extraordinary people start with purpose.” Duffield has been both adept and fortunate at developing much of its staff from within. While strategic technical and leadership hires may occur from the outside, there is a focus on cultural consistency and a commitment to Duffield’s unique culture. When new staff are welcomed, Duffield is candid and proud of the company culture, expectations, and professional growth opportunities.
Culture is a subject of extreme pride and focus at Duffield Associates, Inc. Duffield is entrusted with professional and ethical obligations to the public health and welfare, yet also the need to be a viable business. Differing from other firms, Duffield is much more technically diverse than smaller firms to enable work on complex projects, yet much more collaborative than the much larger regional and national firms, such that Duffield staff routinely work together across technical disciplines. Duffield’s culture has necessarily grown over time to support this niche.

Values
- Be a Consultant, Not an Engineer
- The quality of our results depends on the depth of our understanding. We ask “why” to gain this understanding in order to develop elegant solutions. Clients may not explicitly know nor be able to articulate what they need, and that requires us to spend quality time up front to assure mutual understanding.
