Additional Culture Details

People are at the center of everything we do at Drift. Co-founders David Cancel and Elias Torres have always said that they build teams first, and the product follows--so we work hard every day to bring people together and put a strong emphasis on company culture. Here are a few elements Drift has in place to keep the team close, personal and always learning:

- Our rituals: Since Drift was founded, we have started every week with Monday Metrics, an all-company meeting where we reflect on the previous week’s progress and align on our goals for the week. We also share positive customer feedback and inspirations for the coming week. We end the week with Show & Tell, an all-company meeting where a representative from each team presents something they’ve worked on, with the goal of sharing how this impacts our customers. This practice of bookending the week with Monday Metrics and Show & Tell is important because it allows us to answer the questions “How did we do?” and then “What did we actually make?” It also engages all employees and keeps with our tradition of being transparent and open in everything we do. During Show and Tell we have also added a “Ask Leadership Anything” section, where employees can anonymously submit questions to senior leadership throughout the week that they would like answered at the meeting. We have continued to hold these meetings over Zoom while we have been working remotely and getting the whole group together to start and end the week has been so important to keeping us all connected.
- Employee Resource Groups: Drift encourages and actively supports the grassroots formation of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) by groups of underrepresented people with a felt need for community within our offices. Within these groups, people are able to connect with others from similar backgrounds or lead as an ally to inclusion, which we hope boosts their sense of belonging. We believe the individuals in these groups are representatives of the diversity of thought and experience that contributes to our success and we will look to them to hold us accountable with regards to our business practices. We currently have eight ERGs at Drift. They are: Inclusion@Drift , Women@Drift, Rainbots@Drift (LGBTQ+ ERG), Cambio@Drift (LatinX ERG), STEM@Drift, Mental Health@Drift, Parents@Drift, Sustainability@Drift
- Drift Leadership Principles: 8 clear principles that align the team around what Drift’s core values are. Everything we do and make is tied back to these principles.
- Drift Book Club: Where we recommend books to each other.Drift will then buy the books for us, so that we are always learning.
- Inside Drift: A weekly company-wide newsletter highlighting events, new hires, book of the month, and more.
- Donut Date: A practice that connects employees with another Drifter completely at random every three weeks to get coffee. Now that we are remote, we still do donut dates virtually! We’ve even seen employees get creative and ship their “date” fun local donuts or a good beer if they aren’t a fan of sweets.
- Drift Sabbatical: After three years, Drifters are entitled to a four-week sabbatical to rejuvenate, gain knowledge and pursue their interests.
- Drift Referrals: If a Drifter refers someone the company then hires, they’re entitled to a three-day trip for two anywhere in the world. This referral bonus doubles if an employee refers an underrepresented candidate or a female in sales, product, or engineering.
- Driftmates: When a new hire begins their career at Drift they’re matched with a “Driftmate”, someone who is not on their team. The goal of this program is to provide additional support to new hires by pairing them with an existing Drifter to help them adapt to a new environment, navigate Drift, and meet new people beyond their in-function network.

Values

Create a culture of respect and trust.
We all do our part to maintain a culture of inclusion, respect, and trust. When a problem happens, we go to the person who can fix it instead of complaining about it to someone who can’t. We celebrate each other’s wins with excitement and enthusiasm (and maybe a few train whistles and gongs). We respect different opinions and embrace the fact that we’re not all the same. By doing that, we create unity.
