Design Within Reach
Design Within Reach (DWR) is a retailer of modern design to both residential and commercial clients through four channels: our 44 studios, website, phone and a B2B sales-team. We have developed a presence as the world’s largest retailer in designer modern furnishings and a brand nationally recognized for design excellence.
Rob Forbes founded DWR in San Francisco in 1999. DWR went public in 2004. The company relocated from San Fran to CT in 2010, with over half of the San Fran staff making the move east. Our new 30,000 square foot offices are located in one of America’s only LEED-Gold certified neighborhoods. This special recognition was awarded because of the 80-acre project's environmentally sound design, planning and construction. Our renovated 1870’s brick building merges the industrial past of the former Yale lock factory with a modern architectural style and open office environment. 2011 and 2012 saw the company return to an operating profit.
