Founded in 1981, CHN Housing Partners is a large-scale affordable housing developer and housing service provider that works with its partners to solve major housing challenges for low-income people and underserved communities. CHN partners with utility companies, financial institutions and public agencies to manage and deliver large-scale housing resources. CHN also partners with people—low-income individuals, families, seniors, the disabled and the homeless—to improve their housing stability. CHN’s impact in Cleveland includes 2,500 new homeowners, the housing stability services it provides annually to 30,000 individuals, and the development of 6,500 new homes.
Purpose
Founded in 1981 by six Cleveland community development organizations, CHN Housing Partners is a large-scale affordable housing developer and housing service provider that works with its partners to solve major housing challenges for low-income people and underserved communities. CHN partners with utility companies, financial institutions and public agencies to manage and deliver large-scale housing resources. CHN also partners with people—low-income individuals, families, seniors, the disabled and the homeless—to improve their housing stability. CHN’s impact in Cleveland includes 2,700 new homeowners, the housing stability services it provides annually to 40,000 individuals, and the development of 6,500 new homes.
Vision
CHN’s major focus areas are: Real estate development, home lending, energy conservation and weatherization, utility assistance, financial counseling and education, and community building and engagement.
Mission
CHN's tagline "The Power of a Permanent Address" says it all. We work hard to create opportunities for homeownership for those who may not be able to afford to buy a home through traditional means. Our programs provide education, financial assistance and coaching so that dream of homeownership and housing stability can be achieved.
Additional Culture Details
In 2020, CHN was asked by Cuyahoga County and the City of Cleveland to manage their CARES Act rental assistance funds. In less than 30 days, CHN stood up a program with a website, toll free number, and an online application and began processing rental assistance requests from residents financially affected by the pandemic. To date, CHN has deployed over $12 million to nearly 5,000 households. In the coming weeks, CHN will begin deploying newly awarded pandemic emergency rental assistance dollars to keep thousands more families safely housed.
Because we believe homeownership should be within reach for every family, CHN now has a lending arm, CHN Housing Capital, that provides access to capital for low-income homebuyers and homebuyers in low to moderate income communities in Cleveland and within Cuyahoga County. With funding from Cuyahoga County, the City of Cleveland and the Cuyahoga Land Bank, CHN Housing Capital also provides down payment assistance and home repair loans.
Also, in 2020, CHN launched the Lead Safe Home Fund, after being chosen as the program administrator by the Lead Safe Cleveland Coalition.
CHN is developing the Arch at St. Michael’s, a project designed to transform the former five-story St. Michael’s school and nearby convent on the West Side into affordable housing for low-income seniors. It will provide seniors with the opportunity to age-in-place while locking-in affordability and preserving a historic community icon.
