Charter Oak Financial
Being both a throwback and an innovator wasn’t part of some big strategic plan. It’s something that’s always been part of us.
The whole story began in 1886, when we occupied a single-room office in downtown Springfield and were known as “The Hartford-Springfield Agency.” Today, we span offices throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York, with nearly 400 advisors serving the individuals, families, businesses and large institutions we’re privileged to call clients.
We believe our growth was made possible by realizing that connecting to our past—to the days when business was done on a handshake and people looked out for one another—is just as important as breaking the mold. It lets us serve our communities resourcefully and authentically, rooted in trust with an eye on what’s next.

Additional Culture Details
We began our year with the excitement of a strategic, multi-market combination. Not three months later, our newly expanded organization was thrust into uncertainty as COVID-19 hit our three major markets. This situation was probably the biggest test of our culture we've had in recent history. How do you unify three organizations across three states when no one is leaving their homes? What's the most effective way to demonstrate leadership through a period of volatility?
Our guiding principles led the way to answering these questions and more, serving as the litmus test for every decision we made. From leadership transparency to keeping our employees safe to nurturing blossoming relationships we leaned on the very essence of this firm to see us through.
They say the strongest bonds are forged by fire. Today, as we creep toward some semblance of normalcy, we see that in action. Newly formed teams came together with a united purpose. We met each other's families via Zoom and got glimpses of one another's homes. We commiserated on the tough days, and always made time for a laugh. We even welcomed new hires during this time, leveraging the best of technology and a demonstrably strong culture to attract new talent to our team.
