CSS programs serve families, children, and individuals with special needs in the 5-county Philadelphia metropolitan region. Community-based services include family strengthening, pregnancy and parenting programs, benefit enrollment, immigrant legal assistance, early childhood education, food/clothing, rent and utility assistance. Homeless veterans and their families are housed and provided supportive services. Shelters serve homeless men and women, including those battling addiction and mental illness or who are medically fragile. Afterschool programs provide academic and cultural enrichment for children living in neighborhoods challenged by poverty and violence. The Catholic Church’s long-standing tradition of charitable works in this region is rooted in the dedicated work of priests, religious sisters and brothers, and faithful laity who founded many of the social services programs that comprise CSS today. Their efforts and the inspiration they derived from their faith now impels us to serve others as they did, with genuine and heartfelt concern.
