Hillsborough County Aviation Authority
The Aviation Authority, created in 1945 as an independent special district is responsible for the management and operation of all publicly owned airports within Hillsborough County. This includes Tampa International, Peter O. Knight, Plant City and Tampa Executive Airports. The Aviation Authority is a self-supporting organization, generating revenues from airport users to fund operation expenditures and debt service requirements. Although empowered to levy ad valorem property taxes, the Authority has not collected any tax funds since 1973.
