Anawim Housing
For over 30 years, Anawim Housing has been a leader in providing safe and affordable homes for families and individuals throughout Greater Des Moines. Anawim Housing was founded in 1987 by a group of community activists who recognized a need for more stable, affordable housing. Today, Anawim serves over 2,000 people and owns and/or manages over 1,150 units, consisting of townhomes, single family homes, duplexes and multi-family living. Our mission to develop stable home and strengthen communities is accomplished through our four main areas: Permanent Affordable Housing, Supportive Housing Programs, Supportive Services, and Partner Services. When people come to Anawim, they are given a support system made up of housing managers and family advocates – a whole organization dedicated to their success and stability in housing. Anawim looks ahead to continuing to meet the needs of hundreds of households both in central Iowa and through further expansion throughout the state.
Purpose
It is Anawim Housing’s goal to meet the growing affordable housing needs of the community by increasing and preserving the supply of quality affordable housing for years to come.

Anawim’s team is mission-focused, rolls with the punches, and is comprised of people who believe in the crucial every day work of ensuring everyone has a home. Trust is vital between staff members as people’s lives would be left hanging in the balance without a tightly woven, communication-driven group effort on behalf of every client.
Holistic health of employees is encouraged through retirement plans, expectations to use PTO, access to counseling services, and an exercise competition with an end prize of earning extra PTO. On random surprise afternoons the president of Anawim can be found weaving through cubicles with a beverage cart serving staff. This environment flows directly back into the community every time a client walks into the Anawim office and walks out with keys to a home.
