2Life Communities provides older adults throughout greater Boston opportunities to engage, connect and find purpose. We believe that all older adults deserve the joy of living a full live of connection in a dynamic, supportive environment.
Purpose
2Life Communities provides older adults throughout greater Boston opportunities to engage, connect and find purpose. Since 1965, we have built built and managed affordable, non-sectarian housing for independent seniors. Today we are home to nearly 1500 older adults, the majority of whom are low-income. Inspired by Jewish values and open and welcoming to the broad community, 2Life has buildings in Brighton, Newton, Brookline, and Framingham, Massachusetts. A nonprofit organization, we welcome low-income older adults from ALL backgrounds to live with us and participate in programs and services designed to combat loneliness and maintain the health and well-being of our residents as they age. We think of our campuses as village centers, and build connection and community within our walls and in our surrounding neighborhoods.

For those 62 and older, 2Life Communities is the innovative model for defiantly joyous living in the Greater Boston area, based on the proven physical and mental health benefits of aging in community. For residents, 2Life means individual privacy and control in a safe, affordable, and vibrant environment where they are welcomed, supported, and have endless opportunities to become their best selves.

Additional Culture Details
We have approximately 1500 residents that come from many cultures and backgrounds. Residents come from 25 countries and speak 22 primary languages. We estimate 70% of our residents are immigrants. The average age of 2Life residents is 80; 1/3 of our residents are between the ages of 85 and 105. The oldest resident to reside at 2Life was 109. The median income is about $12,000. In every department that directly interacts with residents, we have staff who share the native culture and language of our residents (e.g., mandarin, Russian).

Values: Since our inception, 2Life Communities has opened our doors to the broader community, welcoming seniors from all backgrounds while being driven by our Jewish values, which guide us to honor thy mother and father (seen as a collective enterprise), welcome the “stranger” as we were once strangers ourselves (including immigrants from many lands), and share across generations (l’dor vador). By providing a supportive environment for our community’s seniors, we help bring forward the wisdom they have accumulated over a lifetime.
