Vision
Greenleaf Trust is profoundly committed to diversity, equity and inclusiveness. To encourage more students of color to study finance and pursue careers in the financial services industry, our Chair and Vice Chair funded The Greenleaf Trust Scholarship Program which awards 20 full scholarships annually to business students of color studying finance or personal financial planning at Western Michigan University. Students receiving the scholarship receive $12,400 annually for tuition until they graduate, or for up to four years. Over $2.3 million has been awarded since the program’s inception in 1999. The program has produced over 90 graduates who have been recruited and placed at many of the top financial companies in our state and country, including Greenleaf Trust.
Greenleaf Trust funded the research and development of a new partnership with local high schools for students of color to increase financial knowledge. Greenleaf Wealth Developers launched in the fall of 2021 in three Kalamazoo public high schools with the objective to grow the financial and investing knowledge of participants, as well as drive awareness of various financial career paths. Greenleaf Trust proudly devotes substantial financial and human resources to develop, deploy and refine this concept and is committed to the long-term growth of this program. Upon successful completion of the program, students earn an investment account funded with up to $500 that will allow their investing journey to continue.

In encouraging and applauding that service, we realize the greatest benefit to our clients and to each other. Our commitment to helping others is not just top down, but also bottom up. It's important to our culture that philanthropy is something everyone engages in.
Greenleaf Trust team members donated nearly 2,000 hours of their time to different non-profit organizations in their communities. On President’s Day each year, we are encouraged to actively participate in Day of Caring. Team members volunteer to causes of their choice, either individually or as a group.
During the holidays in 2023, we supported 14 foster children. Team members participated by donating money or purchasing items from each child’s wish list. We wrap and deliver each gift to the agency and raised an additional $10,000 to benefit the children.
Greenleaf Trust was thrilled to roll out a new giving and volunteering program, Greenleaf Gives, in April of 2022. Inspiring our team to do more inspired the company to do more. So as part of Greenleaf Gives, Greenleaf Trust matches up to $1,000 per year per teammate towards eligible nonprofit donations. We are proud to support our teammates in this manner and excited that our company matched over $50,000 in donations.

Team member engagement at Greenleaf Trust is a top priority. Twenty years ago we formed a Communications and Culture Workgroup dedicated to cultivating a caring workplace culture that inspires employee connectivity, fosters teamwork, and embodies the core values established by our founder. This team organizes numerous opportunities for social engagement and team building activities throughout the year including:
•We celebrated National Pizza Day which encouraged team members to return to their office and socialize with other team members
•We engaged over 75% of our team in a 6-week walking challenge to help us stay active and healthy during the long, Michigan winter months
•We delivered personalized graduation cookies for children of team members who graduated from high school or college
•We executed a summer team celebration with yard games, a long drive contest and a delicious meal.
•We hosted a pet parade in the office for furry friends. One of our team members even baked special, homemade treats
•team members, clients and other friends of Greenleaf Trust were treated to an incredible, black-tie gala with surprise guest, Michael Bublé.
