The Summit Educational Service Center (ESC) provides educational support, professional development and training, staffing and more for school districts and businesses throughout Summit County and the surrounding areas. The ESC employs approximately 300 people, from preschool classroom teachers to resident experts in the fields of gifted and talented coordination, early childhood intervention and assessment, pupil services, special education identification, speech and language pathologists and more. The ESC also works in collaboration with local and city schools to provide preschool services to children ages three to five who are at economic or educational risk and are typically identified as special needs. The ESC provides preschool classrooms located in several school districts, as well as a hearing impaired classroom and intensive needs classroom which both offer a specialized curriculum. Additionally, the ESC provides a school for students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) for students in grades K-8, as well as a life-skills classroom for students with ASD who are transitioning from school to the work force.
