Today known as “Shapiro” Samuel Shapiro & Co., Inc. was founded in Baltimore in 1915 by Samuel Shapiro, a 20-year-old enterprising businessman. He believed strongly in honor, loyalty, and had a strong commitment to excellence with respect to his business relationships.
Sigmund Shapiro succeeded his father as president of the Company; he was instrumental in the company’s growth and very much an advocate for the industry and customers about regulatory issues. With Samuel’s granddaughter (and Sig’s daughter) Margie Shapiro now leading the company, Shapiro is in its third generation of family ownership and management.
