Founded in 1890, University School is an independent day school, educating boys in kindergarten through grade 12. The school’s mission is to inspire boys of promise to become young men of character who lead and serve. Our dedicated faculty, rigorous curriculum, and experiential programs foster intellectual, physical, creative, and moral excellence. University School is a diverse and inclusive community where each boy is known and loved. The school’s motto: “Responsibility, Loyalty, Consideration” figures prominently in the daily lives of the boys. We speak openly about values and believe in teaching values. US awards $4.7 million in financial assistance annually to more than 30% of students in kindergarten through grade 12. Merit aid awards are available to incoming ninth graders. One hundred percent of US graduates go on to four-year colleges. Our athletic programs are important components of the overall school curriculum and encourage self-discipline, respect for others, and sportsmanship. University School maintains two campuses: the Shaker Heights Campus has 456 students in kindergarten through grade 8; the Hunting Valley Campus is home to 415 students in grades 9-12.
